A Hennepin County jury awarded $2.5 million to Patricia Marquardt, who suffered permanent brain damage after a 2012 knee replacement by an orthopedic surgeon at Twin Cities Orthopedics. The jury put 80 percent of the fault on the surgeon and 20 percent on the infectious disease doctors. After a long appeal over her causation experts, the Court of Appeals reinstated the award on remand in 2020.
