Caldwell earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in Managerial Studies from Vanderbilt University, where he was a four-year letterman on the football team and attended on a full athletic scholarship. He is admitted to the Alabama State Bar.

Caldwell serves as President of the Magic City Bar Association (2023) and as a Birmingham Bar Foundation Fellow and Board Member.
