About John Kellner
John Kellner most recently served as the elected District Attorney for Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln counties, where he was responsible for seeking justice for over 1.1 million Coloradans. He tried several of Colorado's toughest and most prominent cold cases and was recognized as the top prosecutor in the state and by Mothers Against Drunk Drivers for holding reckless drivers accountable. John is a U.S. Marine Corps and Afghanistan War veteran who served on active duty as a trial counsel, operational law attorney, and Special Assistant United States Attorney.
He continues to serve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserves. Alongside Dan Caplis and Babar Waheed, he secured a $205 million jury verdict in the amusement park wrongful death case. John is a graduate of the University of Colorado-Boulder School of Law.
Proven verdicts and settlements
A Larimer County jury returned a $65 million wrongful death verdict in September 2026 for the family of Megan Arneson, a 32-year-old single mother killed on I-25 near Mead in August 2022. A semi hauling an improperly loaded excavator struck an overpass, and falling concrete came through her windshield. The jury found the driver and his employer liable after a five-day trial. Plaintiffs' counsel described it as the largest jury verdict in Larimer County history and the largest in a Colorado trucking crash case.
