About James A. Stewart

James A. "Jay" Stewart is a seasoned trial attorney with twenty-three years of experience representing clients in catastrophic injury and complex civil litigation matters. As a partner at Heninger Garrison Davis, Jay focuses his practice on resolving high-stakes disputes, with particular expertise in wrongful death and personal injury claims, transportation, bad faith, commercial litigation, and business torts. Jay is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama. He is an active member of the Alabama State Bar, the Birmingham Bar Association, and the Alabama Association for Justice.

Before joining HGD, Jay honed his litigation skills as a partner at a prominent boutique firm in Birmingham specializing in national and regional business disputes and personal injury matters. His career started with ascending to partner at a regional civil litigation firm and serving as in-house counsel for a national sports event management company, further broadening his legal and business acumen. A lifelong resident of Vestavia Hills, Jay is deeply committed to his community and currently serves as President of the Vestavia Hills School Board. He also currently serves on the selection committee for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and helped create the Vestavia Hills Sports Hall of Fame.

Jay graduated cum laude from Samford University with a degree in Business and gained early professional experience at Merck Pharmaceuticals. Inspired by this foundation, he pursued and earned a joint JD/MBA from Cumberland School of Law. Jay and his wife, Brooke, have been married for 29 years and are the proud parents of three children. Jay has served on the deacon board and his family is actively involved at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
