About Robert Langdon
Bob Langdon has devoted more than 40 years to representing individuals and their families in cases where defective vehicles or products caused serious injury or death. He has served as lead counsel in some of the nation's significant personal injury trials, obtaining multi-million dollar verdicts on behalf of clients nationwide. In Maryland, Bob was lead attorney in a $59 million verdict in Kumar v. Toyota, a case that set legal precedent regarding defective vehicle design. In 2011 he served as lead attorney in Castillo v. Ford, obtaining a $23.4 million verdict in San Bernardino County, California, on behalf of a woman who suffered permanent injuries in a Ford Explorer tire failure accident.
Bob has been inducted as a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, served as President of the Missouri Association of Trial Lawyers, and has been a member of the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice. Since 1985, he has been nationally board-certified in trial advocacy. He speaks regularly at seminars throughout the country and has lectured at law schools including Chicago-Kent, Loyola Chicago, Missouri, Stanford Law School, and UC Berkeley.
Proven verdicts and settlements
A Chittenden County jury returned $43,101,162 against Johnson Controls, the seat manufacturer, after a Vermont woman was left with a catastrophic spinal-cord injury when the single-sided recliner mechanism in her car seat collapsed during a rear-end collision she should have survived. The trial court entered final judgment at $36,948,123, and the appeal was later dismissed by stipulation.
A 1993 federal jury awarded $11.3 million to the sons of Beverly Garner, a passenger killed when a defective fuel pump ignited an engine fire in her 1985 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, a verdict whose admissibility fight over a former GM insider's testimony traveled all the way to a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the plaintiffs' favor.
A federal jury awarded $4.5 million to U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Aaron Eckerberg after a commercial van driver for Inter-State Studio and Publishing Co. blew a stop sign on a Missouri highway and slammed into his truck, causing a fractured thoracic vertebra and traumatic brain injury that ended his career as a combat helicopter pilot.
