About J. Mike Lawter

J. Mike Lawter is the Lead Attorney and Founder of Lawter & Associates, PLLC in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He has more than 40 years of legal experience, having begun his practice in 1974.

Lawter served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1976 to 1986, where he chaired the House Industry and Labor Relations Committee. He was named Outstanding Legislator by the United Auto Workers (UAW) and has received the YMCA Community Development Award, recognition in Who's Who in American Politics, Personalities of the South, and Outstanding Young Men in America.

Lawter earned his J.D. from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1974, where he served as Senior Class President of the Phi Delta Phi Honors Legal Fraternity and was named Outstanding Senior by the OCU Law School Alumni Association. He earned his B.S. in Education from Central State University in 1971, where he was on the President's Honor Roll.

He is admitted to the Oklahoma and Texas state bars; the U.S. District Courts for the Western, Eastern, and Northern Districts of Oklahoma; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. The firm has offices in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
