About David Golub
David S. Golub is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School and is a partner in Silver Golub & Teitell LLP, which he helped found in 1978. Throughout his legal career, he has sought to utilize the law to further a commitment to constitutional and civil rights and protection of the disadvantaged in a trial and appellate practice encompassing virtually every aspect of litigation. He is currently the head of the firm's Class Action & Complex Litigation Practice.
Mr. Golub has argued twice before the United States Supreme Court, more than 40 appeals in the federal courts of appeal and on numerous occasions in Connecticut's appellate courts. Mr. Golub served as lead private counsel for the State of Connecticut in its sovereign enforcement action against the tobacco industry and participated in the nationwide litigation leading up to the national settlement that resulted in a $3.6 billion recovery for the State of Connecticut. He has also maintained an active trial practice for individual plaintiffs, obtaining the first plaintiff's verdict for an injured smoker ever rendered in New England.
Proven verdicts and settlements
A federal jury found that R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company had defectively designed Salem cigarettes and awarded Barbara Izzarelli nearly $8 million; punitive damages and years of accruing interest, upheld on appeal and left standing when the Supreme Court declined to hear the case, eventually brought the total to $52.3 million.
Elizabeth Tigani was 32 when she was admitted to deliver her first child. After nearly a day of labor she had a cesarean section that, her lawyers argued, was both ordered too late and performed negligently, permanently injuring her bladder and uterus. A Stamford jury awarded $30.4 million after an eight-year fight.
A 15-year-old Greenwich High School sophomore died by suicide on August 27, 2013, the first day of the school year, after more than four years of bullying at Western Middle School and the high school. His parents sued the Town of Greenwich and its Board of Education in 2015, alleging staff knew about more than 25 bullying reports and never followed the district's mandatory anti-bullying policy. After the Appellate Court rejected the board's sovereign immunity defense in 2018 and the Supreme Court declined review, the town agreed in February 2023 to pay $5 million weeks before jury selection, the largest school bullying settlement by a Connecticut municipality.
