About Jay Yasso
The decision to become a lawyer was quite easy for me having lived in Baghdad, Iraq the first 8 years of my life. Things like the law and due process are nonexistent. You could be arrested today and hung tomorrow without giving the victim the opportunity to prove his innocence. I became a lawyer to help protect the rights of individuals and to let them know that there is a sense a fairness when involved in the justice system. I chose a personal injury practice because I really saw the need for injured victims to receive excellent legal representation.
I enjoy being able to hand the clients a big sum of money as compensation for their tremendous losses. For over three decades, Jay Yasso has been a tireless champion for survivors ofsexual abuse and sexual assaults at the hands of bosses, co-employees, and the clergy.Jay has sued private companies and educational and religious institutions that fail to protectthe rights of sexual abuse victims even after those in charge were placed on notice ofthe sexual acts being perpetrated. Jay's advocacy in representing sexual assaultvictims is reflected in the multi-million dollar settlements he has achievedon behalf of his clients. Jay's practice also focuses on professional negligence, product liability, and generalcivil litigation, where he has litigated, mediated, and facilitated numerous multi-milliondollars settlements for his clients.

A class settlement with Michigan Pain Specialists resolved claims of 311 patients and survivors of the 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak traced to contaminated steroid injections. It was reached in Livingston County Circuit Court in March 2016. The $10.5 million is a single class figure that the sources do not itemise by patient. Robert B. Sickels of Sommers Schwartz PC sat on the three-attorney plaintiffs' steering committee for Michigan.
After two federal jury verdicts found that Frankenmuth violated the Loesel family's equal-protection rights by passing a zoning ordinance designed to block a Walmart land sale, the city settled for $3.7 million in November 2014.
On April 25, 2014, a Saginaw County jury returned a $1,612,269 verdict for Debra Cameron and her husband, Hugh, against family physician James V. Bodrie, M.D. The jury found he failed to pursue a cardiac workup despite months of symptoms and a chest X-ray showing an enlarged heart, and that Ms. Cameron suffered a major heart attack days later. The award included $262,268.86 in medical expenses, with the rest for non-economic damages, and the vote was 6-2. Michigan's 2014 cap on non-economic damages in malpractice cases limits that portion to $440,200, so the most that could stand was about $702,469, and no appeal was filed.
