About Lisa Esser-Weidenfeller
I represent victims of medical malpractice and sexual assault survivors because these individuals have been harmed in such a way that they don't have the strength to go against those that have harmed them, and are often left with devastating, life-long injuries. I enjoy bringing the truth to light. Lisa Esser-Weidenfeller represents injury victims in birth trauma, medical malpractice, and dangerous drug and device claims. She also represents survivors of sexual assault against those who commit these crimes and the institutions that protect them.
Lisa joined Sommers Schwartz immediately after graduating summa cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley School of Law. Upon joining the team, she began practicing as a full-time litigator. She has devoted her life to advocating for those that have been injured by health care providers, dangerous drugs and devices, and sexual predators. She has successfully litigated cases in state and federal courts across the nation, including in Michigan, Illinois, and North Carolina.
Lisa attributes much of her success to her background. From a very young age, Lisa was told that she would be a lawyer one day. This statement was most assuredly brought on by her love of debate, and, quite frankly, just a good argument. However, it takes more than a love of argument to become a good lawyer.

A class settlement with Michigan Pain Specialists resolved claims of 311 patients and survivors of the 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak traced to contaminated steroid injections. It was reached in Livingston County Circuit Court in March 2016. The $10.5 million is a single class figure that the sources do not itemise by patient. Robert B. Sickels of Sommers Schwartz PC sat on the three-attorney plaintiffs' steering committee for Michigan.
After two federal jury verdicts found that Frankenmuth violated the Loesel family's equal-protection rights by passing a zoning ordinance designed to block a Walmart land sale, the city settled for $3.7 million in November 2014.
On April 25, 2014, a Saginaw County jury returned a $1,612,269 verdict for Debra Cameron and her husband, Hugh, against family physician James V. Bodrie, M.D. The jury found he failed to pursue a cardiac workup despite months of symptoms and a chest X-ray showing an enlarged heart, and that Ms. Cameron suffered a major heart attack days later. The award included $262,268.86 in medical expenses, with the rest for non-economic damages, and the vote was 6-2. Michigan's 2014 cap on non-economic damages in malpractice cases limits that portion to $440,200, so the most that could stand was about $702,469, and no appeal was filed.
