Thomas Duffy

Thomas J. Duffy is the founder of The Duffy Firm, a Philadelphia personal injury practice he established in 1988 after leaving a partnership track at a large Philadelphia firm. He earned a B.A. cum laude from Marist College and a J.D. from Temple University. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and the District of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Tom concentrates his practice on catastrophic injury cases, including medical malpractice, birth injuries, misdiagnosis, emergency room injuries, and auto and trucking accidents.

In 2024 he obtained a $44.9 million verdict against Temple University Hospital, the highest medical malpractice verdict in Pennsylvania that year and one of the top ten in the nation, and he has secured the largest medical malpractice settlement in Pennsylvania history along with multiple eight-figure settlements and verdicts over his career. He has been named Philadelphia's Lawyer of the Year for Plaintiffs Personal Injury Litigation by Best Lawyers in America in 2016, ranked among the Top Ten personal injury attorneys in Pennsylvania by Super Lawyers since 2016, and named to the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 since 2011. He holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, received the Justice Michael A. Musmanno Award from the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association in 2018, and received the Jefferson Moss-Magee Humanitarian Award in 2023. In 2012 he launched the Duffy Fellowship, which funds staff attorney positions at legal clinics serving disabled and low-income Philadelphia residents.
