About Matthew McNaughton

Matthew J. McNaughton spent 30 years as a police officer and firefighter with the City and County of San Francisco before joining the Carcione team after his admission to the State Bar of California in 2003. For more than two decades he has represented injured peace officers, sheriffs, paramedics, and firefighters in California workers' compensation matters, from employee death cases to complex cumulative trauma claims arising from public safety work. His practice applies public safety presumptions where appropriate and addresses the interaction between the workers' compensation system, industrial disability retirement through public entities such as CalPERS and SFERS, and Social Security Disability. His years handling Peace Officer and Firefighter Bill of Rights investigations and litigation give him a distinct knowledge base for resolving injured workers' challenges. Outside of law he spends time with family and friends and works on building projects that are rarely finished.
