Gordy Hauptman

Gordy Hauptman (1947-2008) founded Hauptman, O'Brien, Wolf & Lathrop in Omaha, Nebraska in 1987.

Hauptman was known for his advocacy work in personal injury law and his dedication to clients injured through negligence. His most notable contribution was establishing the Safe Ride Home Program in 1990, the first of its kind in the country, which provides complimentary cab rides to holiday celebrants who have consumed too much alcohol to drive safely. The program expanded to include Christmas/New Year's and St. Patrick's Day seasons, plus partnerships with the YWCA to transport abuse victims to shelters. The firm funds approximately 1,800 annual rides.

Hauptman earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1974.

He was admitted to the Nebraska Bar.

He passed away on August 12, 2008, after a five-year battle with prostate cancer.
