About Laurie Higginbotham

Laurie M. Higginbotham is a nationally experienced trial and appellate lawyer with a primary focus on Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) cases. She has represented clients in Texas, Oklahoma, California, Oregon, Washington, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, New York, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Arkansas, Missouri, and other states. She was named the Scott Ozmun Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association in 2023 and was recognized by Austin Monthly as a Top Attorney from 2020 to 2024. In 2011, Texas Lawyer named her one of 20 'Winning Women' profiling outstanding female Texas litigators.

She has been listed as a Texas Super Lawyer from 2013 to 2023 and as a Texas Rising Star from 2004 to 2013, and holds an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. She has served as chair of the Federal Tort Liability and Military Advocacy Section of the American Association for Justice from 2022 to 2023 and has led two attempts to overturn the Feres Doctrine before the U.S. Supreme Court. She was twice elected to the Lakeway City Council (2018-2020 and 2020-2022) and twice selected to serve as Mayor Pro Tem.

A combat veteran developed end-stage renal disease after VA physicians at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital prescribed Naproxen for three consecutive years, ignoring repeated warnings in his own medical records that NSAIDs would damage his kidneys; the case settled for $10.5 million, the largest FTCA settlement in Missouri history.
