About David Raybin

David Raybin heads the criminal defense section at Raybin & Weissman, bringing more than 40 years of experience in criminal trials, criminal appeals, parole hearings, and civil rights litigation. He earned his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1973, then served with the Tennessee Attorney General's office from 1974 to 1977 and with the Nashville District Attorney's office from 1977 to 1984 before entering private practice. He has been named Best Criminal Lawyer in Nashville in both criminal general practice and white-collar defense by Best Lawyers in America.

And listed among the Best Criminal Lawyers in Tennessee by Tennessee Business magazine. A prolific author, he wrote the definitive text Tennessee Criminal Law, which has been cited hundreds of times by Tennessee courts and relied on by judges and attorneys statewide. He has held multiple appointments to Tennessee Supreme Court advisory commissions on rules of criminal procedure, post-conviction procedures, and practice and procedure, and received the Tennessee Bar Association Justice Henry Award for Outstanding Legal Writing in both 1983 and 2005.
