About David Parker
Now I've become a lawyer helping lawyers help other people. I enjoy the interaction with other attorneys, and the challenges of both legal writing and oral advocacy. I grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania. Through the ice and snow, and my blue collar mill job, I decided to see if I could do more for myself and for others.
The law was my vehicle. Now, my work drafting and arguing appeals for clients seeking compensation in personal injury lawsuits, unpaid wage and overtime claims, and consumer class actions is highly satisfying, as it allows me to be an advocate for those who need a voice. David is an appellate attorney with Sommers Schwartz, and has appeared before the Michigan Supreme Court, the Michigan Court of Appeals, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
In his role with the firm, David works primarily in the areas of personal injury law, unpaid wage and overtime law, and class action law. As one of the firm's appellate attorney, he handles a wide range of issues, including drafting and arguing clients' appeals and briefing dispositive motions at the trial court level. David's command of persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy have earned him both respect of the Michigan legal community and recognition from dBusiness Magazine, Super Lawyers, and Martindale-Hubbell.

A class settlement with Michigan Pain Specialists resolved claims of 311 patients and survivors of the 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak traced to contaminated steroid injections. It was reached in Livingston County Circuit Court in March 2016. The $10.5 million is a single class figure that the sources do not itemise by patient. Robert B. Sickels of Sommers Schwartz PC sat on the three-attorney plaintiffs' steering committee for Michigan.
After two federal jury verdicts found that Frankenmuth violated the Loesel family's equal-protection rights by passing a zoning ordinance designed to block a Walmart land sale, the city settled for $3.7 million in November 2014.
On April 25, 2014, a Saginaw County jury returned a $1,612,269 verdict for Debra Cameron and her husband, Hugh, against family physician James V. Bodrie, M.D. The jury found he failed to pursue a cardiac workup despite months of symptoms and a chest X-ray showing an enlarged heart, and that Ms. Cameron suffered a major heart attack days later. The award included $262,268.86 in medical expenses, with the rest for non-economic damages, and the vote was 6-2. Michigan's 2014 cap on non-economic damages in malpractice cases limits that portion to $440,200, so the most that could stand was about $702,469, and no appeal was filed.
