About Michael Mertz
Michael T. Mertz graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 1997 and has practiced with Hurley McKenna & Mertz since that year, becoming a partner in 2004. He exclusively represents injured persons and their families in medical malpractice, sexual abuse, nursing home abuse, product liability, construction accidents, automobile collisions, and premises liability cases. Mertz has recovered more than $400 million for his clients and has successfully resolved cases in Illinois, Alabama, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Tennessee, Nevada, Indiana, and Oklahoma.
He obtained over $20 million in settlements for a group of women abused by a physician. Notable court decisions include Modelski v. Navistar International Transportation Corp. (1999) and Keef v. Widuch (2001), both resulting in favorable appellate reversals for his clients. In April 2022, he obtained a Cook County Circuit Court jury verdict of $5,412,000 in a premises liability case involving an apartment security door, and in June 2022 he secured a $6 million settlement in Birmingham, Alabama for injuries sustained in an ambulance collision.
