About Roger Johnson
Roger Alan Johnson is a Founding Partner of Johnson, Vorhees and Martucci and co-founded the firm in January 2002. He earned a B.A. magna cum laude from Missouri Southern State College in 1987, an M.A. from the University of Kansas in 1990, and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1991. Johnson focuses his practice on medical malpractice, birth injuries, wrongful death, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and trucking collisions.
He served as lead counsel in Kendrick v. CoxHealth, a 2021 Greene County jury verdict of $34.1 million, the largest medical malpractice verdict in Missouri that year and ranked 58th nationally. He has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (2015 to 2024), rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell since 2006, and recognized as a Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyer annually from 2011 through 2024. Best Lawyers named him Lawyer of the Year in Medical Malpractice in Springfield in 2015, 2017, 2022, and 2024.
Proven verdicts and settlements
A Greene County jury awarded $34,107,628 to a boy who suffered permanent brain damage during his 2014 birth at Cox South hospital in Springfield, where escalating doses of the labor drug Pitocin deprived him of oxygen. It was the largest medical malpractice verdict in Missouri in 2021, and because the injury predated the state's 2015 damages cap statute, the noneconomic award stood without reduction.
