About John Alan Jones

John Alan Jones is the founding member and managing partner of Martin & Jones, where he has practiced since 1982. Born and raised in Pine Level, North Carolina, he graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill (inducted into Phi Beta Kappa) and then earned his law degree from UNC School of Law in 1982, where he was a member of the Holderness Moot Court. He began his career representing workers with occupational diseases and soon developed a statewide practice. From 1984 to 1997, he represented approximately 1,100 women from 28 states injured by the Dalkon Shield IUD, obtaining a large verdict in the last Dalkon Shield case tried in the United States. Since 1988 he has successfully represented medical malpractice victims throughout North Carolina, and now heads the firm's three-attorney medical malpractice group.

He also served as lead counsel in predatory lending class actions against NationsCredit (a Bank of America subsidiary, settling for $38,750,000) and Citifinancial (a Citibank subsidiary, settling for $42,500,000), together compensating more than 12,000 North Carolina homeowners. He handles trial and appellate work in state and federal courts across North Carolina and nationwide. He carries the Martindale-Hubbell "AV Preeminent" peer review rating and has been recognized as a North Carolina Super Lawyer every year since 2007 and a Best Lawyer in America every year since 2008. He has been named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers eight times in Medical Malpractice, Product Liability Litigation, and Mass Tort Litigation categories.
