Colton Johnson Taylor

Colton M. Johnson Taylor is an Attorney for Romanucci & Blandin's renowned Civil Rights team. He helps individuals affected by police misconduct, including cases involving deadly or wrongful shootings, excessive force, false arrests, no-knock warrants, police chases, prisoners' rights, taser injuries or deaths and unreasonable searches and seizures. He also handles cases of Premises Liability, Transportation & Car Accidents and other catastrophic personal injuries. He decided to pursue a career in civil rights after being impacted by the many stories of police brutality that he heard about while in high school, such as those of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Ohio.

His undergraduate studies led him to author a thesis focusing on police behavior. In law school, Colton clerked for Romanucci & Blandin for over a year on the litigation of police brutality and prison abuse cases. During his clerkship and then immediately following his swearing-in, Colton contributed as a member of the trial team that won a historic $98 million verdict in Dallas in November 2024 for the shooting death of Botham Jean by former Dallas Police Office Amber Guyger. After majoring in political science and history at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, Colton earned his law degree from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

He has committed himself to doing the public good through volunteering and participating in community support programs during college and law school. Colton served an AmeriCorps term with Public Allies Twin Cities in Minneapolis, where he assisted seniors below the poverty line and connected them to services to help them remain independent. He participated in the Loyola Law Legislation and Policy Clinic and was part of a team that drafted a bill passed by the Illinois legislature and signed into law by Governor J.B.

Pritzker in 2024. The law enables children in DCFS care to access culturally appropriate hair care training and treatment. Colton likes playing tennis, watching the NBA and attending live concerts in his free time.
