About James Burkhalter

James Burkhalter is an experienced personal injury and car accident attorney at Smith & Hassler. He grew up in a small East Texas town near Cedar Creek Lake and attended the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in political science with minors in business and communications. While there, he worked in the Special Litigation Division of the Texas Attorney General's office under Greg Abbott.

After graduating, he moved to Houston to attend law school, earning both a Juris Doctorate and a Master of Laws in International Law from the University of Houston Law Center. During law school, he studied European Union Law in Ireland and Wales at University College Dublin and Bangor College, and worked at a criminal defense firm in Pristina, Kosovo. Before joining Smith & Hassler, he gained experience at another Houston personal injury firm.
