About Bob Blakemore
Bob Blakemore has well over fifteen years of litigation experience. Bob has devoted his career to protecting the rights of his clients, often against powerful governmental and corporate entities. Over the years, Mr. Blakemore has been involved in several notable and well-publicized civil rights class action cases, including Johnson v. City of Tulsa (the “Black Officers Case”) and Homeward Bound, Inc. v. Hissom Memorial Center. In 2011, Mr. Blakemore had the honor of drafting the amicus brief, filed on behalf of the American Medical Association, in the United States Supreme Court case Douglas v. Independent Living Center of Southern California, Inc., 132 S. Ct. 1204 (2012).
More recently, Mr. Blakemore has focused his practice on multiple cases involving the deaths and assaults of inmates housed in county jails, including Burke v. Glanz (the “Elliott Williams case”), Henderson v. Glanz, 813 F.3d 938 (10th Cir. 2015), Poore v. Glanz, 46 F. Supp. 3d 1191 (N.D. Okla. 2014), Revilla v. Glanz, 8 F. Supp. 3d 1336 (N.D. Okla. 2014) and Sanders v. Glanz, 138 F. Supp. 3d 1248 (N.D. Okla. 2015).
Mr. Blakemore also represents the Estate of Eric Harris in a nationally publicized excessive use of force case involving the shooting death of Mr. Harris at the hands of Bob Bates, a former Reserve Deputy with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
Mr. Blakemore has extensive environmental law experience. He was an integral member of the State of Oklahoma's litigation team in the environmental case Oklahoma v. Tyson Foods, Inc. (the “Oklahoma Poultry Litigation”). Mr. Blakemore also acts as outside environmental counsel for major oil and gas corporations. He has significant appellate experience, having managed multiple successful appeals in federal and state appellate courts.
Bob graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Oklahoma and his Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Bob was a member of the Phi Delta Phi fraternity, was on the Dean's Honor Roll and attended the Oxford University Summer Program at Queen's College in 1998. Bob is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association.
Proven verdicts and settlements
Terral Ellis II, 26, walked into the Ottawa County Jail voluntarily on an outstanding warrant. He developed bronchopneumonia and spent twelve days asking for medical care for seizures, sweating and pain. Jail video captured staff and the jail nurse mocking him. He died of septic shock on October 22, 2015.
Elliott Earl Williams, 37, was arrested in Owasso on an obstruction complaint in October 2011. Shortly after booking at the Tulsa County Jail he suffered a severe neck injury that paralysed him from the chest down. He was left on the floor of a medical-unit cell, unable to move, for days, and died of complications of the untreated injury and dehydration.
