Maria Holmes

Maria E. Holmes has devoted her career to representing injured plaintiffs across Texas, securing favorable outcomes in personal injury, family litigation, and criminal defense matters. She has first-chair trial experience in cases ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions in controversy. Prior to joining The Buzbee Law Firm, she led the family and business litigation department at a prominent firm in the Houston Metroplex, appearing regularly in state and federal courts. Before that, she operated the Law Office of Maria Elena Holmes as a solo practitioner.

Maria is a native Houstonian and is fluent in English and Spanish. She graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, with a major in African-American Studies and a minor in Government, earning Dean's List honors. She received her J.D. from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, where she served as President of the Black Law Students Association, earned the 2013 Pro Bono Award, and placed as a quarter-finalist in the Rocky Mountain Region Black Law Students Association Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial competition.

She clerked for the Honorable Judge Jason Pulliam in the Bexar County Court of Law No. 5. Thomson Reuters recognized her as a Texas Rising Star from 2019 through 2023, a designation given to fewer than 2.5% of attorneys under 40. Maria is licensed to practice in Texas.
