About Lauren Cerri
Lauren A. Cerri represents survivors of childhood sexual abuse, with a record of substantial verdicts and settlements against school districts and other institutions. In March 2022, a Santa Clara County jury returned a $102.5 million verdict against the Union School District in San Jose, awarding her client $65 million, which is believed to be the largest single-plaintiff sexual abuse judgment against a California school district. In a separate Union School District case, she obtained a $7.5 million settlement for five men sexually abused as elementary school students in the 1970s and 1980s. She also obtained a $9 million settlement during trial against a childcare provider, and an $8.25 million settlement against Morgan Hill Unified School District that included court-mandated student abuse prevention programs and staff training requirements.
Cerri also lobbied for California's 2013 law increasing penalties for teen perpetrators of sexual assault following the Audrie Pott case. She is a past president of the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association (2018-2019) and has been named Trial Lawyer of the Year by that association twice. She admitted to the Connecticut bar in 2008, the California bar in 2012, and the New York bar in 2020.
Proven verdicts and settlements
A Santa Clara County jury awarded $65 million to one of two plaintiffs, $102.5 million in total, against Union School District after finding it failed for years to act on repeated warnings about music teacher Samuel Neipp's sexual abuse of students at Dartmouth Middle School.
