Shad M. Miller

Shad M. Miller is a talented litigator who joined Decof, Mega & Quinn, P.C. in 2020. Prior to joining the firm, Shad gained invaluable experience in the legal industry by representing clients with serious injuries at two other trial lawyer firms located in Providence. Shad is well-versed in all aspects of cases in the areas of catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and product liability. Shad has successfully brought and resolved various injury cases in state and federal courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Shad has also had the honor of arguing two appeals before the Rhode Island Supreme Court, the state's highest court, and in both cases, the court decided in favor of his clients. The published decisions are Bossian v. Anderson, 76 A.3d 143 (R.I. 2013); and Limoges v. Nalco Co., 157 A.3d 567 (R.I. 2017).

As a teenager, Shad was introduced to the legal system as a peer advocate, prosecutor, and judge as a member of the Onondaga County Youth Court program, a criminal justice process for first-time non-violent juvenile offenders. Under the supervision of Van Buren Town Justice Ed Van Der Water, Shad and his peers performed the roles of peer advocate, prosecutor, and judge. At the end of the process, a panel of peer judges issued penalties, usually in the form of mandatory community service hours and letters of apology. It was during this time that Shad became more interested in the civil justice system and advocating for individuals catastrophically injured or killed by the negligence of others, particularly when those individuals or their family members feel like they don't have a voice or the ability to seek justice against powerful companies, institutions, professionals, or insurance carriers.

Shad grew up in Central New York on a twenty-acre hobby farm. He enjoyed cycling and long-distance running on the surrounding country roads and was a member of the varsity cross-country and track & field teams throughout high school and college. Shad later raced marathons at the club level, including four Boston Marathons, and was twice the overall winner of the Cape Cod Marathon. During the pandemic, Shad and his wife began boulder, top-rope, and sport climbing, and Shad became fascinated by the game of chess.
