Rick Hartkopp, a construction site superintendent, was hurt in a February 2019 crash on I-25 caused by an uninsured driver and sued his own insurer, State Farm, over the uninsured motorist benefits it would not pay. After a four-day trial in June 2023, a federal jury in Denver set his damages at $2.4 million. Judge Robert E. Blackburn entered final judgment against both State Farm defendants for $1,180,053.17 in September 2023, and no appeal followed.
