George Kraehe

George Kraehe grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, New York City, and Germany. He graduated at the top of his high school class, then joined the Army as a Military Intelligence Arabic interpreter before earning an appointment to West Point. He transferred to Yale University, completing Drill Sergeant and Airborne training in the Army Reserves, and graduated with honors in 1990 with degrees in history and German literature. He then attended the University of Texas School of Law, served on the Texas International Law Journal, and completed law school in two years. George subsequently served as a Texas assistant attorney general, then as an associate and partner in a South Texas catastrophic torts defense firm.

After moving to New Mexico, he became a shareholder at an employment defense boutique and then spent twenty years as a federal prosecutor (Assistant U.S. Attorney), handling white collar, public corruption, sex trafficking, environmental, and national security cases, and serving as the District of New Mexico's Healthcare Fraud Coordinator. He later served in Washington, D.C., as a trial attorney and Domestic Counterterrorism Coordinator at the DOJ National Security Division, and as Chief Prosecutor of the Military Commissions at Guantanamo Bay -- responsible for prosecutions related to 9/11. He holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law from Oxford, an M.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard, and an M.S.S. from the U.S. Army War College. Licensed in Texas, New Mexico, and Massachusetts.
