About Joe Gamez

Joe A. Gamez grew up on the west side of San Antonio and saw firsthand how his community suffered without adequate legal representation. That experience shaped his commitment to justice. He attended San Antonio College, the University of Texas at Austin, and St. Mary's University School of Law. Early in his career he worked at the Brooks County Attorney's Office before entering private practice.

Motivated by what he saw as ongoing inequities in Texas's healthcare and education systems, he ran for and won a term in the Texas Legislature in the early 1980s. After returning to full-time private practice, his firm took on a personal injury focus. A personal experience deepened that commitment: when his daughter was 4, she and his wife were in a car accident that left his daughter's face severely injured, and the insurance claims process proved grueling even for an attorney. Gamez Law Firm now operates 7 offices across Texas and gives every client their attorney's cellphone number.

Gamez has been recognized by Super Lawyers (2020-2021), the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum (2021), and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum (2021). He has served on the boards of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, St. Mary's Hispanic Law Alumni Association, and St. Mary's Law School Board of Visitors. He has also established a scholarship endowment at St. Mary's Law School.
