About John Yanchunis

John Yanchunis leads Morgan & Morgan's class action department from Tampa and is one of the nation's foremost data-breach litigators, having served as lead counsel in the Yahoo customer data breach litigation, the largest data breach case in history, and in leadership roles in the Equifax, Target, and U.S. Office of Personnel Management breach cases. After graduating magna cum laude from South Texas College of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the law journal, he clerked for two years for U.S. District Judge Carl O. Bue, Jr. He also served as lead counsel for Florida's insurance regulators in their investigation of undisclosed broker compensation across the insurance industry, and was named to the Lawdragon 500 Global Plaintiff Lawyers list for 2026.

As court-appointed lead plaintiffs' counsel, Morgan & Morgan's John Yanchunis negotiated the $117.5 million settlement resolving claims from Yahoo's 2013-2016 data breaches, the largest theft of personal data in history, touching roughly 3 billion accounts worldwide. Judge Lucy Koh approved the fund in 2020 after rejecting an earlier version as inadequate.
