About Judith Livingston
Judith A. Livingston is a senior partner at Kramer, Dillof, Livingston & Moore and has been named one of the 50 most influential women lawyers in America by New York magazine and called a Legal Legend by LawDragon. She has won 37 trials with verdicts exceeding $1 million and negotiated hundreds of settlements totaling nearly half a billion dollars. She is President of the Inner Circle of Advocates, the first woman and youngest member invited to join that invitation-only group of 100 top plaintiff lawyers in the United States. She has been named New York Medical Malpractice Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers magazine for 2011 and 2013.
In 2022, Livingston was inducted into the Maurice A. Deane School of Law Hall of Fame at Hofstra University. She received the Presidential Medal from Hofstra University and the Fordham Founder's Award in 2014. She is a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers, and sits on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. Livingston graduated from SUNY Stony Brook with high honors and from Hofstra University School of Law in 1979, where she also received an Honorary Doctor of Laws in 1998.
Proven verdicts and settlements
After Amtrak Train 188 derailed in Philadelphia in May 2015, killing eight and injuring more than 200, Kline & Specter's Thomas R. Kline led the plaintiffs' negotiations that produced a $265 million settlement fund for the victims.
In April 2023 a Wayne County jury awarded $96 million to the widow and mother of Jude and Zachary Attianese, a New Jersey father and son killed when a Challenger Motor Freight tractor-trailer rear-ended their car in an I-75 construction zone in 2018. The company had acknowledged responsibility, so the trial addressed damages. The driver was taking medications for Parkinson's disease, and the company had known of his diagnosis since 2015.
Kramer Dillof Livingston and Moore secured a $35.6 million pre-verdict settlement, the highest in New York State history at the time, for a teenager who suffered catastrophic brain damage after Westchester Medical Center failed to treat frontal sinus fractures sustained in a scooter collision.
An Ulster County jury returned a $4.6 million wrongful death verdict in June 2016 for the family of Walter Friedlander, 63, a Kerhonkson veterinarian who died in February 2011, less than 36 hours after admission to Kingston Hospital. The family said sepsis was never diagnosed. The jury divided responsibility among his primary care physician, a gastroenterologist and the hospital.
