About Jim Piel

Jim Piel was raised in California and in a small farming community in North Central Oklahoma. He attended undergraduate school at the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with Special Distinction. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. where he graduated magna cum laude and received the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award for Excellence in Advocacy for his work in the D.C. Law Students in Court clinic representing individuals in small claims and landlord-tenant court in the District of Columbia. Jim is also a trained mediator and has handled numerous mediations in civil cases on assignment from various state courts in Dallas and Tarrant counties.

Jim began his career on the defense side of the docket representing large corporations in civil litigation. Following the conclusion of his work on one of the trial teams in the Texas AG tobacco litigation, Jim knew he had had enough of that world and walked away from defense work and large corporate law firms. Getting back to the spirit of his small-town roots and values, Jim began working in personal injury trial law, generally, and mass tort litigation, in particular, for a large plaintiff-only law firm in Dallas helping people injured by exposure to hazardous chemicals, dangerous prescription drugs and defective medical devices . Jim works as a managing attorney in the firm’s pre-litigation department and is an experienced trial attorney and client advocate ...
