About David Benowitz

David Benowitz is a founding partner of Price Benowitz LLP, where he represents CEOs, federal contractors, and financial services executives in white-collar criminal and personal injury matters. He has practiced as a high-profile criminal defense attorney for 25 to 30 years.

Benowitz earned his Juris Doctor from George Washington University Law School in 1995, where he served on the Law Review, the Moot Court Board, and the D.C. Law Students in Court Program. He also earned an LL.M. in Trial Advocacy from Temple University in 2006. He is admitted to the Bar of Washington, D.C. and the State Bar of Maryland.

From 1995 to 2001, Benowitz served as a Staff Attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, where he represented clients in serious felony cases including first-degree murder, armed robbery, and carjacking. He has been a faculty member of the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Workshop since 2012.

Notable matters include representation of a former African nation president charged with bulk cash smuggling (resulting in a small fine), defense of a business owner in the "Africa Sting" FCPA prosecution (dismissed by the Department of Justice), representation of a high-ranking naval officer in a government corruption investigation, the 2017 exoneration of Lamar Johnson through work with the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project, and the 2020 release of Calvin Bright from a 60-years-to-life sentence for a wrongful murder conviction.

His honors include Super Lawyers selection (2013-2025), Best Lawyers designation, an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, recognition as one of Washington D.C.'s Best Lawyers by the Washington City Paper, and selection to the National Trial Lawyers Top 100.
