Timothy Cavanagh

Timothy J. Cavanagh is the founder of Cavanagh Sorich Law Group and has practiced personal injury law for more than 35 years. He established the firm in 1997 and has since secured more than 75 verdicts and settlements totaling over $900 million on behalf of injured clients across Illinois and the country. Cavanagh focuses on wrongful death, medical malpractice, catastrophic railroad and trucking injuries, and motor vehicle accidents. He is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court Bar and has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer every year since 2005.

Best Lawyers named him the 2022 Personal Injury Litigation Plaintiffs Lawyer of the Year in Chicago. In 2025, he was elected President of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. Among his landmark results are a $104 million Cook County verdict in a road construction negligence case in 2025, a $55 million railroad crossing verdict, and a $50 million FELA railroad injury settlement.
