About James Tawney

James Tawney is a Partner at Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro P.C., a personal injury firm with offices across New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona, which he co-founded with Alejandro Acosta in 2016.

Tawney earned his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law and his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Northern Arizona University. He is admitted to the State Bars of Texas (#24060970), New Mexico (#142518), and Arizona, and to the U.S. District Courts for the Western District of Texas and the District of New Mexico, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

A Southwest native, Tawney started his legal career at an El Paso plaintiff's firm. He is Board Certified in Truck Accident Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Texas Rising Star and Southwest Rising Star, on the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40, and with the El Paso Bar Association Outstanding Lawyer Award.
