About John Simon
John G. Simon founded The Simon Law Firm in 2001 and has built a record of courtroom victories across three decades of practice. Proven verdicts and settlements
A St. Louis County jury returned a $745 million verdict against nitrous oxide distributor United Brands and local head shop Coughing Cardinal after finding the companies conspired to sell Whip-It! canisters as an inhalant to a driver who passed out behind the wheel and fatally struck 25-year-old Marissa Politte outside her workplace.
A Champaign County jury returned a $535 million verdict, the largest known single-plaintiff verdict in Illinois history, against a psychiatric facility that failed to prevent the rape of a 13-year-old female patient by another adolescent resident.
A St. Louis jury awarded $462 million against trailer maker Wabash National after its defective rear-impact guard failed and allowed a car to slide beneath a trailer on I-55, killing Taron Tailor, 30, and Nicholas Perkins, 23, in 2019.
A St. Louis jury awarded $105 million to tire technician Randy Dorman after a Bridgestone/Firestone RH5 multi-piece truck wheel explosively separated during inflation, fracturing his face, both arms, and wrist, while internal company documents showed Firestone engineers had tracked nearly 100 similar incidents for decades.

A St. Louis jury found Dr. Henry Walden and Saint Louis University negligent for escalating opioid prescriptions to a chronic back pain patient, who received more than 37,000 pills between 2008 and 2012. The jury awarded compensatory damages to the patient and his wife and $15 million in punitive damages. Applying the jury's 33 percent fault finding against the patient, the judgment stood at about $16.74 million, and the Missouri Court of Appeals affirmed it in 2017.
A St. Louis County jury awarded Taylor Cayce $10,018,689.85 in January 2024 after her left ureter was stitched shut during a 2016 cesarean delivery at Mercy Hospital, leaving her to self-catheterize for life. The first trial in February 2023 ended in a hung jury. The Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District affirmed, and the Missouri Supreme Court declined to take the case in 2025.
