About Jim Martin
Jim Martin is a personal injury trial lawyer at Sorrels Law who has been Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for nearly 30 years and a Texas-licensed attorney for over 40 years. His passion for justice traces to his own family history: his great-grandmother died in the infamous Triangle Factory Fire after her employer locked seamstresses inside the building, and his grandfather died young after working inside industrial storage tanks with only a rag to protect him from toxic fumes. Over his career at leading Texas firms he has successfully settled or tried nearly every type of personal injury case, from 18-wheeler crashes to dram shop cases involving the over-service of alcohol.
He is particularly proud of a recent jury verdict of more than $4 million against a hospital for willful and wanton negligence in a case where the insurance company never offered a single dollar in settlement. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981 and earned his law degree from the University of Houston in 1984, where he was inducted into the Order of the Barristers. A teacher and student of trial advocacy, he has mentored younger lawyers on trial techniques, and he joined Sorrels Law in 2026.
