About Scott Bethune
Scott S. Bethune is a founding partner of Davis, Bethune and Jones, established in 2001. He concentrates his practice on complex litigation, personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, and mass tort cases. Bethune served as lead trial counsel in Dugan v. Hyatt Corporation, which resulted in a $177 million jury verdict in 2022 that the Missouri Court of Appeals affirmed in 2024. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers, and a member and former chapter president of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
He served as President of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association in 2015 and as a member of the Missouri Bar Board of Governors for District 12. Proven verdicts and settlements
A St. Louis jury awarded $28 million in compensatory damages and $149 million in punitive damages to Shannon Dugan, a New Jersey sheriff's deputy who was sexually assaulted by a Hyatt security guard who used his master key to enter her hotel room while she slept. The Missouri Court of Appeals affirmed the full award in December 2024.
