About William Levin
William A. Levin is a founding partner of Levin Simes LLP and a leading trial lawyer in the toxic tort and products liability field who has tried over 100 cases. Proven verdicts and settlements
A Los Angeles jury awarded $208,821,015 to Rhoda Evans, who developed mesothelioma after decades of washing the asbestos-laden work clothes of her husband, a Los Angeles DWP pipe cutter, with $200 million in punitive damages assessed against pipe maker CertainTeed. William Levin and Laurel Simes tried the case for the plaintiffs. The full number did not stand: months later the trial judge struck the punitive award as unconstitutional and ordered a new trial on all issues, and the Court of Appeal affirmed that order in 2012. No retrial result or settlement was ever reported.
