About Tom Stilwell
Tom Stilwell is a partner at Sorrels Law who spent the first half of his career handling high-stakes personal injury and business litigation for Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies as a partner at three national law firms before moving to the plaintiffs' side in 2017. He is well known in aviation litigation, having previously represented airlines and aviation manufacturers, and now assists passengers and claimants in cases against airlines, aircraft manufacturers, and maintenance companies. He has handled wheelchair injuries, turbulence claims, overhead bin cases, and helicopter and aircraft crashes, and has published on the Air Carrier Access Act, the Montreal Treaty, and the Warsaw Convention.
He also has extensive oilfield experience, including a recovery of more than $33 million for his clients in one oilfield case, and served as national trial counsel for an international oilfield equipment manufacturer. He started his career at Fulbright & Jaworski, where he became partner, then helped build litigation groups at Eversheds Sutherland (2007) and BakerHostetler (2010). A native Houstonian, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Economics in 1991 and earned his J.D. cum laude from the University of Houston Law Center in 1994, where he was Managing Editor of the Houston Journal of International Law.
