Eric Katz

Eric D. Katz is a member of Mazie Slater Katz & Freeman and is certified as a Civil Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court and by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He earned his J.D. from Pace University School of Law and has been licensed in New Jersey since 1991. Katz concentrates his practice in managed care law and class action litigation on behalf of physicians and healthcare providers, representing doctors and medical groups in disputes with health insurers involving usual, customary and reasonable rate disputes, prompt payment claims, unlawful bundling and downcoding, and improper coverage denials.

He served as lead class counsel in several managed care class actions, including a $39 million class action settlement against Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield on behalf of tens of thousands of physicians, and a national class action settlement against Delta Dental of New Jersey on behalf of dentists. His work in Oxford Health Plans v. Sutter resulted in a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court decision in June 2013 upholding physician class action rights for claim disputes. He has appeared before the New Jersey Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee and has been selected to Super Lawyers every year from 2007 through 2026.
